Farsot: Insects

The German five piece act known as Farsot is back, stronger than ever with this new (late 2011) full length.

Unfortunately, I've started working on this release too late to put it in my 2011 'best of' list, because it would have really deserved being listed…Insects clocks in at 55 minutes and is made of eight tracks. The compositions are mostly lasting between seven to ten minutes. None of the tracks are slightly boring. Farsot is said to be deeply rooted in the darkened black metal arts, which is quite present in their songwriting. The elaborate compositions are showing inspiration from this musical genre by presenting those harsh vocals, distorted guitar works, tremolo picking, double basses and the likes. This high quality release has much more to offer to the listener than generic characteristics though. The vocals bear different expressions and could be also clean, twisted, sick and ghostly. Same goes for the guitar playing; involving some juicy riffs, clean / delicate and/or distorted arpeggios, even a bit of those cool black & roll times. The pace usually walks a moderate path, but occasional furious times and great slower crushing parts are involved as well. To make matters even more interesting, Farsot has included somber ambiences by using keyboards and electronics. A lot of atmosphere has been injected in their crafty creative process, making Insects a thrilling album to discover. Having reviewed their previous album called IIII some years ago, I found myself discovering a mature act that has taken a giant leap in their musical and creative process. Many outstanding tunes to point here like: "Like Flakes of Rust", "Empyrean", "Perdition", "Adamantine Chains" and the mighty crushing "Withdrawal".

Farsot has a lot to offer to the underground world and the demanding listener will be pleasantly surprised while lending an attentive ear to their recent work.
