Daniels, Neil: Metallica - The Early Years And The Rise Of Metal (Book)
The summer of 2012 will find Metallica celebrating The Black Album by playing the much lauded album in full at various festivals around Europe. Prolific rock music scribe Neil Daniels (Judas Priest, Robert Plant and Journey amongst others) has turned his attention to the Bay Area legends for this latest book that traces their career prior to the aforementioned release and concentrates firmly on the bands early period, taking in their formation and encompassing the years from Kill 'Em All to ...And Justice For All. With contributions from other noted journalists and influential figures in the Metallica story such as Diamond Head's Brian Tatler this is a welcome companion to more weighty efforts such as Joel McIver's Justice For All and Dave Mustaine's official biography. The voices of the band are heard via the wealth of existing interview material and the author does a good job of keeping the narrative moving along at an even pace. An entertaining read and a book that can easily be digested in a couple of sessions this is another very well researched effort from Daniels.
