A limited mini CD release of just 500 copies via Stormspell records from this Swedish five man line-up brings together seven tracks, two of which are 2011 demo recordings. Starting with, funnily enough, the sound of an air raid siren "When The Sky Turns Red" explodes into life with all things Iron Maiden. From the galloping rhythms to a passable Bruce-esque scream it is evident that this is a band that wears it heart on its sleeve when it comes to their influences and they are all about recreating the signature sound of the NWOBHM. There is a real energy and enthusiasm about their classic riffing and anthemic choruses and the twin guitarists (Andreas Johansson and Johan Karlsson) excel on the duelling solos of "The Metal Cult" and the speed metal "Midnight Burner" with vocalist Michael Rinakakis wailing like a banshee.
Not simply some sort of 80's metal parody Air Raid remains faithful to the era thanks to plenty of power, passion and strong songwriting skills. Well worth checking out.
