Locanda Delle Fate: The Missing Fireflies

Locanda Delle Fate was formed as a trio by Luciano Boero, on bass; Oscar Mazzoglio, on Hammond, Minimoog, and keyboards; and Giorgio Gardino, on drums and Vibraphone. For the recording of this album, Leonardo Sasso, sings vocals; Massimo Brignolo, plays guitar; and Maurizio Muha, plays piano and Minimoog.

"The band created music that was brought to the Greek producer: Niko Papathanassiou, (brother of Vangelis), who heard the compositions and opened the paths for Locanda to record for Polydor. In 1977, they recorded "Forse le Lucciole Nonsi Amino Piú", in three weeks and the LP had a good reception. In the next year, the band released a CD and a mini-LP, but they weren't very progressive, so they disbanded. In 1980, with the name Locanda, they formed after the end of Locanda Delle Fate and another CD was released. In 1988, in Japan, and 1993, in Korea, Forse... was released on CD with bonus tracks. Also in 1993, the Italian label Mellow released a live CD of a show recorded in 1977 with an unreleased track called "La Giostra." Surprising the prog rock scene, the band came back in 1999 without Basso on voice and released Homo Homini Lupus, (http://www.allmusic.com/artist/locanda-delle-fate-p213354/biography, 2012).

This is excellent 70s era, early Genesis/ELP prog which will bring back many memories of the greatness of music past…even if the lyrics are all sung in Italian. No matter, the music is of the highest quality and Sasso's vocals take you right back to that era as if you never left.

My favorite tracks were the opener, "Crescendo", "Non Chiudere a Chiave Le Stelle", (both live and non – live), "La Giostra", and "Vendesi Saggezza". This album will take you back to where the Golden Age of Prog inspired all of our generation, and provide a thrilling introduction to those who may have missed it being born later. Excellent classic piano, flute work, and Moog synthesizers which capture that early prog era so perfectly.
