With the addition of new vocalist Elliot Coleman, progressive metal act TesseracT have released a new EP called Perspective, which are acoustic/atmospheric re-recordings of songs from their most recent album One, but with Coleman on vocals. As such, the arrangements here are dreamy and lush, with mostly acoustic guitar and keyboards providing the framework for Coleman's high pitched vocals to take center stage. With the exception of the more traditional TesseracT sounding "Eden 2.0", which sees the entire band back for some heavy pounding, the rest of the EP is a very laid back affair, and almost too laid back. The first four songs (which include a Jeff Buckley cover)all sort of segue into each other and lull you to sleep, and though Colemen is obviously an impressive singer and this was really meant to showcase him, the sparseness of the arrangements on these re-recordings makes these songs come across really bland. "Eden 2.0" however sees those highly technical arrangements and bright tones come out in the open, with Coleman soaring over the top, leading one to believe that the next full length CD from TesseracT could be very, very interesting.
