Boulevard: What's Up
Boulevard, is or was a Swedish rock outfit, the recording here under review already dates back to half way in the 1980's, and sounds like it. Classic melodic hard rock. Meaning riffing guitar work, pounding drums, screamy, rocking vocals, and lots of anthemic choruses. Most definitely noticeable are the vocals of bands in this era,
influenced greatly by vocalists extraordinaire Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio and Klaus Meine. Vocal lines all were proven good as in use by these gentlemen.
Musically Boulevard is a good band with a bunch of really good musicians featuring:
Roy El Hoshi (Vocals); Dick Börtner (Guitar); Lennart Widegren (Guitar) ; Mikael Magnusson (Bass); Morgan Pettersson (Drums). As talented as they may have been, succes avoided them, and that can be attributed to mediocracy of the songs. None of the songs stand out and and stick in your head.
This album is the reissue of their only- as far as I could find- album, It also contains 3 bonus tracks which are demo versions of 3 songs also present on the album.
It for sure has its moments but I can't say I am impressed by the quality.
To quote the name of the first track its 'solid as a rock', but also slightly outdated.
