Life is the full-length debut from the Portland, Oregon duo of Stevie Floyd of Dark Castle and Ashley Spungin, formerly of Purple Rhinestone Eagle. These two have put together a 35-minute drone/doom/psych movement broken down into two parts, recorded live in the studio. Monolithic guitar riffs, eerie vocalizations, and crashing drum work all permeate this often time dark and disturbing work. Lovers of feedback and super distorted guitar waves will certainly get off on Life, though for those needing melody and structure might be warned to steer clear of this release, as it might appeal more to fans of Sun0))) and the like. Some of the ringing chords on "Life Part 2" remind a little of the early work of Earth, but that quickly subsides once the distorted guitar and agonizing screams break back into the mix.
Not for everyone, Life is a noisy, feedback drenched journey into your worst nightmare, and if that is a trip you'd like to take, then Taurus will be glad to be your tour guides.
