Grind act Ambassador Gun are back with their follow-up to 2009's When in Hell in the form of the 30-minute Golden Eagle, another disc chock full of brutality and ferocity as we've come to expect from the band. Of course, you really have to appreciate this kind of thing, which is a raucous, frenzied mix of grind, crust punk, and sludge, noisy as all hell and brutal beyond belief. Most tunes are in the 2-3 minute range, filled with maniacal screaming, slashing guitar riffs, feedback, crazed, gymnastic drum work, and even more screaming. When they slow down a little for some groovy riffing, like on "Slowbled", you can really appreciate what this band brings to the table. Even their more adventurous arragements, which you can hear on "Warpainted", show a band that has the chops to pull this stuff off. Unfortunately, too much of Golden Eagle is caustic and noisy, with the incessant screaming proving to be too much of a distraction at times to really allow the music to stand out.
Chances are though if you are a grind or crust punk fan, this is just the kind of thing you are looking for, so by all means dig right in.
