A city with a rich heritage York, which dates back to 71 AD and the Roman occupation, offers the perfect setting to capture a performance by Blackmore's Night. Recorded in September 2011, A Knight In York is the third live DVD release from Ritchie Blackmore, Candice Night and their wandering band of minstrels who have now been around since 1997 with their renaissance era musical journey. A rustic stage setting decked out with trees and barrels provides the perfect backdrop for what is to follow as The Man In Black, who for many of us remains the undisputed master of the strat, delivers a masterclass on the lute and mandolin.
Candice possesses a shimmering voice that casts a magical spell, moving seamlessly from wispy ballads to mystical medieval romps as the band takes their musical cues from Ritchie who retains a brooding but compelling on-stage persona. With a superb production job on the DVD you really get a sense of what attending a Blackmore's Night show is all about, the atmosphere throughout being very warm ad positive with all concerned appearing to have a great time from the rousing "Locked Within The Crystal Ball" to the evocative rendition of the Bee Gees "First Of May".
A Knight In York is offered in a variety of formats including stand alone and combined CD / DVD releases plus Blu-ray and special edition fan package.
