Mayhem Maniac Machine is the sophomore release from German technical death metal band Deadborn, who happen to feature two ex-members of Necrophagist. Comparisons to that band, or other leaders of the tech-death movement like Obscura, Spawn of Possession, or Nile, are really remote, as Deadborn don't bludgeon the listener with tons of shredding, jazzy bits, and stop-start arrangements, but feature tight, brutal ensemble work, similar perhaps to early Decapitated. Vocalist Mario sounds like a cross between Nile's Dallas Toler-Wade and Vader's Peter, as his deep throaty growls lurch in and out of the tight, pulverizing riffs from guitarists Jo & Kevin and Slavek's acrobatic drumming. Some of the highlights are "Bionic Abomination", "Replicants Device", and the hyper-blast mayhem of "Second Order Cybernetics", but overall most of the songs here are quite decent, though after a few spins they all start to sound a bit similar. Deadborn are definitely a band to watch out for, as I don't think they've fully hit their stride here on Mayhem Maniac Machine but seem to have all the tools to deliver that 'killer album' in the very near future.
