Hollywood Burnouts: Excess All Areas

A band named Hollywood Burnouts has to hail from The Sunset Strip right? Well this lot are from Germany, although, other than the odd Germanic vocal inflection from Mike Nazzty, this is sleazy stuff from start to finish, wringing every last bit of Faster Pussycat, Vain, early Motley Crue and G&R out of their faithful 80's rock attack. So get ready to tease that hair, pucker those lips and talc up your legs so you can slide into those leather strides, as Hollywood Burnouts take us on a trip down memory boulevard. The low slung guitar onslaught drips with super-cool ease, while the song titles "Fake Baby", "Wild At Heart", "I Wanna Ride" and "Hands Of Rock" tell you all you need to know about the rabble rousing gang vocals that abound and the sneered lead singing of Nazzty. To be fair Chrizzy Roxx (I'm not sure, but I'm guessing these aren't the boys real names...) and Nazzty do make a convincing six string partnership, with the loose, but tight attack that made the likes of Slash and Izzy Stradlin such a potent force being strongly hinted at, if not quite achieved to the same standard as their illustrious influences. However where Hollywood Burnouts haven't quite hit pay dirt is in the song writing department. In fact the authenticity with which the German sleazsters fire out their middle of the road retro riffs, actually makes them sound more like retreads than an invigorating attempt to breathe life into this genre.

That said, Excess All Areas is the band's full length debut and the guys certainly have the attitude and swagger to make the leap from copycats to leaders of the pack, although album number two could be make or break. Like all good carefree kick assers, Hollywood Burnouts have started the revolving door of band members a twirling, with Vito Crash (bass) and drummer Nikki Sin already cast on the scrap heap of broken dreams. However that hasn't stopped the HB cavalcade, with temporary tousled haired rockers drafted in to keep things rolling on. Maybe the upheaval will be the start of something big for the band? Excess All Areas hints at greater things, but truth be told, it could go either way at this stage....
