A former member of the Welsh group called Man; Clive John made his debut in 1975 which has finally seen the light of day as an Eclectic Discs reissue. Helping out are fellow band-mates, Martin Ace, Andy Fairweather Low and Phil Ryan.
Comprising 10 songs of acid tinged, slightly psychedelic rock, it is easy to see how this album would have fared pretty well back in 1975 when first released. Fuzzed out guitar on the opening few minutes reminds us the time machine has not yet left the 7th decade of the old century as the songs have that great raw edge so prevalent at that time of music's evolution through the years. Although the songs sound different to a degree, I am reminded somewhat of a Welsh version of those great stoner bands from the late 60's / early 70's including Spirit, Moby Grape, Quicksilver Messenger Service and others, especially with the guitar.
Maybe this reissue has been left in the box of archives for far too long as I have certainly moved forward from albums like this but despite these few reservations, this is still a great trip down memory lane for those who may have remembered some of the better Welsh bands that have since silently withered away.
Standout tracks include: Out Of My Tree / Summer Song / Swansea Song / Visitin' The Duke (with some great harmonica)
