Klogr: Til You Decay

Italian band, Klogr (pronounced Kay-log-are) have released their debut, full length record entitled Til You Decay. This 11 track effort has a very '90s type of vibe to it, with a bunch of bottled up angst overflowing and pseudo brooding vocal stylings. This Alt/Modern Metal record falls somewhere in that "tweener" realm of Metal. It's not overly Heavy nor Alternative but it's the angry delivery that makes them appear heavier.

The vocals, while delivered with a bit of vigor, for the most part come across as a very poor man's, Josh Todd (Buckcherry), who is struggling.Klogr's songs themselves are quite average, at best. CD lead track, "Live Dying", sets the table with a semi-aggressive tempo, once the track kicks in, but it still offers quite a bit of blandness. Second track, "Silk and Thorns",picks up with the blandness and continues to unveil the sound that is a mixture of Puddle of Mud and a band like Collective Soul, but heavier.

Klogr does manage to switch up speed gears every now and then and they do provide some nice melodic lines, too. The problem is, the songs are just kind of...boring. There isn't much here to sink your teeth into. Nothing stands out and song after song just blends into one another, with the exception of the song "Green Star". This is the moody and plodding track out of the lot and with its slow moving beat, it shows a glimpse of what the band could be capable of.

Overall, I found Klogr's debut to be a bit lackluster. The vocals are average, the musical performances are average and the songs are just plain average, too. The CD packaging is quite nice, however. As a whole, Klogr does seem very energetic and hopefully as they grow as a band, their songwriting will also mature.
