Walking Dead Suicide: The Rise of Resistance
Finland`s Walking Dead Suicide are billed as a ``progressive thrash band`` however this is far from a true label as the album doesn`t really have a lot of progressive elements to it. Rightly or wrongly when I think of progressive music I think of long complex songs with lots of emphasis on musicianship and skill. While there is a complex long song ("World After") on this album, in reality Walking Dead Suicide play punchy, to the point melodic death metal with occasional Meshuggah influences creeping in.
While the album is well played and most of the tracks are enjoyable the album suffers from what I call ``first song letdown`` where the opening track is so good the rest of the album almost seems to be a letdown by comparison. There really is nothing wrong with the rest of the album, it`s just that opener "Sekhmet (The Powerful One)" is so good that the rest of the album just falls flat due to not being able to keep up with the quality of that one song. That`s a shame as it is a competently played album that probably should have fared better. The only other track that even comes close to "Sekhmet" would be album closer "In My Funeral" which is a slower Amon Amarth style song with some absolutely haunting guitar parts.
