Infantree: Hero's Dose

Infantree is band from the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. They played the 2009 Bridge School Benefit and 2009 Outside Lands. The band members include: Alex Vojdani, Donald Fisher, Matt Kronish, and Jordan Avesar.

This was a nice surprise to receive. Good modern mood music with great guitar, especially bass work that is relaxing from the opener "What You Wanna Do" to "Original Sin". Hard to compare these guys. You know you've heard similar music, but they don't fit comfortably into any real genre, which is a very good thing. Maybe you could compare them to the moody rock of the 1990s. But very original and more importantly different than most of what is popular on the radio today.

"Skinny Bones Jones" takes a harder edge as the album continues to evolve and improve. There are more U2-like ethereal guitar launches. The vocals are again, hard to compare to anyone else adding to their unique vibe. The closest vocal I could match would be Michael Stipe of early REM.

"Hero's Dose" opens with a cool Dick Dale – esque guitar roar which makes it one of the best tracks on the album. The organ takes you right back to the Doors and the keys of Manzarek. "Living Proof" is another Doors-esque romp which stands out well on a collection of interesting and unique tracks.

"Forgive Me First", is a showcase for their diverse talents, almost sounding a bit like a CSN harmony track.

This is a dynamic sounding album with many variations and mood changes. All together this was a unique experience and I think you will like it if you are looking for a something different from your regular music spins. An excellent surprise and well worth the price of admission.
