You might be familiar with Dis Pater from the one-man ambient black metal project Midnight Odyssey. Well, Dis Pater's musical universe is not limited to ambient black metal as documented by the debut album of Tempestuous Fall – another one-man project of his. The Stars Would Not Wake You offers heavy and melancholic doom metal akin to My Dying Bride (actually, Dis Pater has stated that Tempestuous Fall is directly inspired by My Dying Bride).
The five tracks on the album all exceed ten minutes of length, and with tempos that are slow and tortured, this is definitely music that takes its time. The music is primarily, true to tradition, built around slow drum beats and droning notes and sad guitar harmonies galore. Slow and doom-laden, the songs are nonetheless teeming with melody and often have lush textures due to the use of synths and the violin.
Openly inspired by My Dying Bride, but by no means a reproduction of their music, The Stars Would Not Wake You is melancholic and melodic, and should definitely appeal to fans of funeral doom metal and depressive death doom.
