And One: S.T.O.P

It is difficult at times to categorise music, as I for one, work on the ethos that there is only two types of music, good and well bad really. If I was to categorise And Ones' S.T.O.P then synth pop would spring to mind; think Depeche Mode as a bench mark and you aren't going to be too far of the mark.

There is a two disk edition of this album, but this review is purely based on the standard edition, although from what I hear here, I don't believe that the extra disk will contain any earth shattering revelations, but don't hold me to that.

The problem I faced as a listener is the thematic repetitiveness of the album. There is something irregularly fascinating about their approach, which I can't put my finger on. When they get it right, sonically it does drag you into their dark morbid world, but those moments are few and far between.

There is light at the end of the tunnel though with Shouts Of Joy, You Without Me, the female vocalised Don't Get me Wrong, Aigua, Everybody Dies Tonight and the anthemic album closer No Words that does point out that there is more to this band.

They are a new band to me, although I believe they have been around for some time, well since 1991 and do have several releases to their name, S.T.O.P I believe being their eleventh. One guess's that long term fans will love what is on offer here.

Tread carefully though with S.T.O.P, as the mundane, for me, far outweighs the exciting moments. This approach will divide people.
