Antigama: Stop the Chaos
What – just 15 minutes worth of music? Well, yeah – but don't underestimate Stop the Chaos just because it's short. Truth be told, a 15 minutes-long EP is enough for Polish grind-masters Antigama to crush your skull much more effectively than most other bands on the planet can even dream of!
Stop the Chaos consists of five short, adrenaline-pumping tracks and one longer, moodier piece, "The End", that closes the EP (though it's hardly epic, either, at just 3:52). The uninitiated may have problems noticing the song changes in the fast portion of this effort, as starting with track #1, "E Conspectu", and ending with track #5, "Intricate Trap", Antigama manage to maintain similar, breakneck tempo, with Łukasz Myszkowski's powerful vocals effortlessly drilling their way through the massive wall of sound created by guitarist Sebastian Rokicki and the rhythm section of bassist Michał Zawadzki and ex-Vader drummer Paweł Jaroszewicz. For grind-gourmets, however, this is bound to be one of 2012's most delicious musical feasts. Okay, so I'm not sure whether all of them will appreciate the sombre, rather "anti-grind" closer, but for me this last track only adds to the appeal of the EP, and actually manages to calm me down just enough, so I can crave re-entering the nervous universe of Stop the Chaos again and again.
I'm still waiting for a longer Antigama release that will totally devastate me, but I can appreciate Stop the Chaos for what it is: an honest and inspired piece of grind metal that uses its limited running time to astounding effect.
Good job, guys – and keep these merciless releases coming!
