Howl, The: Loose Ends

The Howl are a power trio action from the north of Finland and Loose Ends is their second album (note to others, that's second, not sophomore). After about three seconds I was thinking that I was listening to the worst drum sound ever but that was quickly rectified as the rest of album is suitably brutal. At times the band veer straight into full on metal mode and on other occasions a sense of classic rock is displayed. There's even a moment during "Ambulance" when vocalist Hannu Lindholm does his best Wednesday 13 impression. At the risk of damning with faint praise, Loose Ends is a good, if not great album. It does a job whilst it is in the company of the listener but perhaps doesn't do enough to stay much thereafter other than "Doodle" which rocks consistently.
