Many great power metal bands are of Italian origin such as Labyrinth, Vision Divine, Rhapsody Of Fire, Elvenking and the list goes on, so when I get a chance to hear a new one it is always with high hopes. Twilight Gate is an Italian group formed in 2008 that consists of vocalist Stefano Fiore, Gaetano Rossiello lead guitar/keyboards, rhythm guitarist Nicoḷ Cantatore and Luciano Carlucci plays the bass plus on drums is Giacomo De Nicolo.
Of those songs listed below, opener "Scent Of Twilight" and track five "Through The Gate" are of the quite brief musical interlude kind leaving five full length numbers. These are "Fate", "Land of the Wiseman" and "Portrait of the Warlord" where Twilight Guardian perform metal music of the spirited European metal kind, while the band then ease that momentum with the slower "Starlight Memories". To finish off their debut Twilight Gate have also included a cover of Rainbow's "Catch the Rainbow" and a good one it is.
While the debut EP from this power/progressive metal band doesn't rise to rival Italy's best this release does warrant an inspection by fans of the genre. With fetching songs containing impressive musicianship and vocals it is strong enough to show that Twilight Gate have the potential to one day release an even better first full length release that just might match those bands.
