Shroud of Rain is the début EP from the Dutch band Armed Cloud. According to the band's bio they have been playing since 2010 and were formed by Wouter van der Veen (Guitarist) and Boris Suvee (bass). Sound-wise the best way to describe the band would be as progressive metal a la Dream Theatre or Rush without a lot of the over-indulgence (I.E. lengthy songs) that DT tends to get into.
For being such a short EP this is actually quite enjoyable. All of the songs are catchy and show that the band has a lot of potential to them. While not overly heavy, all of the songs do have quite a bi of crunch to them, resulting in an album that will probably appeal to both hard rock and metal fans at the same time. In particular the album's second song "Helping Hand" with its catchy chorus sounds like something that with the right promotion behind it, could become a hit on rock radio.
