Kristine, Liv: Libertine

Vocalist Liv Kristine, formerly of Theatre of Tragedy and lead singer of metal group Leaves' Eyes, has another solo release, though Libertine shows little resemblance to the recordings of those like Leaves' Eyes.

She could have just released a similar sounding album but isn't it better to do something that is different? For the most part Libertine is as distant from a metal album as it gets being a far lighter kind of recording with some upbeat appealing songs like "Sole Me" and "Libertine" so don't delve into Libertine expecting to hear that heaviness of Liv Kristine's main band. Though many metal fans may be too quick to dismiss this recording due to this, the truth is Libertine really is a good album that deserves to be heard before making that final judgement call.

I suppose I am just a sucker for great female vocals as many of my favourite bands have female lead singers and vocally Liv Kristine's is flawless as usual. Her enchanting vocals are of course the focal point of Libertine as they should be and the production on this release certainly does Liv's material justice.

I'll be the first to admit that Liv Kristine's Libertine isn't the sort of music release I would normally seek out, as I really do prefer her in Leave's Eyes but I also can't deny that after experiencing Libertine there are songs on here that I really do like.
