Rex Shachath: Sepulchral Torment (EP)

Enter the time machine, as the Ulster death squad Rex Shachath takes you back to the early 90s with their debut EP Sepulchral Torment which is pretty much as old school it can get without actually being from the early 90s.

Evolving around old school death metal riffage – much of which is primitive – and a plethora of changes per song, the Ulstermen really capture the chaos, attitude, and evil of the 90s death metal scene. Incorporating blastbeats and heavy sections into their music, they capture the whole gamut of early 90s death metal – from Autopsy over Napalm Death to Morta Sluld, and they do it very convincingly. Their EP even has the same organic feel as heard on early 90s death metal releases.

While intentionally not original, the tracks on this EP are rock solid and crushingly brutal and, if you like old school death metal, extremely enjoyable in every single aspect. Sepulchral Torment is a job well done by Rex Shachath, and I look forward to hearing an entire LP of their material.
