From Dublin, Ireland comes Electric Taurus, a stoner/doom/blues trio comprised of James Lynch (Bass), Matt Casciani (Guitar&Vocals), and Mauro Frison (drums). To say that these guys worshipped at the altar of Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, MC5, Grand Funk Railroad, Cactus, Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Sir Lord Baltimore, Leaf Hound, and Budgie would be a severe understatement, as there are plenty of classic heavy rock influences running rampant on these distorted, pounding songs.
Give lots of credit to guitarist Casciani, as his riffs and solos are just dripping that vintage sounding distortion, but with a blues edge and just on the verge of feedback. You'd almost swear that you are hearing some leftover tracks from an early Blue Cheer or Cactus album, as the scalding riffage just peels the covers off your speaker system. "A New Moon" and "Mountains" just crush from start to finish, heavy as all hell but with a touch of psychedelia, and "Mescalina-If At the Edge of the Earth" goes full into psych/prog/stonersville with some trippy atmospherics eventually giving way to merciless, rampaging power chord hell. "Two Gods-Caput Algol" is for all the doom fans out there, a swirling dirge with incredible groove and mountainous riffs, perfect for all the Sabbath, Saint Vitus, and Down lovers in the house. Lynch and Casciani combine for some thunderous wall of sound on the mix of doom and hippie rock that is "Prelude to the Madness", a strange but effective combination of The Grateful Dead and Pentagram. Slightly funkier rhythms and plenty of feedback laden wah-wah guitars drive the uptempo closer "Magic Eye", another fine slab of stoner rock that ends this fun album on a high note.
Though there are plenty of bands playing this style out there at the moment, if you love this sort of thing and can't get enough of those vintage sounds, you'll need to investigate Electric Taurus' Veneralia immediately.
