Bombs of Hades: The Serpent's Redemption
If it's more retro Swedish death metal that you want to get your dirty digits on, Bombs of Hades are the band for you. Lo-fi, primitive, raw, ferocious, iconoclastic, and – yes, that word again – brutal, their crusted death metal savagery pays homage to the likes of Entombed and Autopsy with a punk edge and unremitting riff upon riff upon riff upon… well, you get the picture. The ugly vocals and seriously damaged guitars sit atop drums that are way too muddy in the mix to give the tracks the kind of kicking they deserve. While making a not-very-discreet nod in the direction of all that has gone before, the tracks have enough variation to help Bombs of Hades stand out from the rest of the death metal-worshipping devotees but there's still the overwhelming feeling that you've heard it before.
