Prescient: The Polynominal Framework

Hailing all the way from the hills of Perth, Australia, comes the instrumental trio that calls themselves, Prescient. This Math Metal band throws down some nasty, "chaotic improvising" with oft kiltered time signatures. Their 6 track EP is entitled The Polynominal Framework and it blisters with magnanimous guitar soloing, lushly soaring choruses and heavy Djent grooving. Fans of Periphery, Animals As Leaders and Keith Merrow will find these guys right up their alley.

Prescient are Rob Hare on bass, Drew Shepherd on guitar and Taz Buckle on drums and these 3 are on to something pretty 'kewl'. They have found the ability to entertain the listener without the use of vocals, which is at times very difficult to achieve. While their music is quite complex, but it does not take only a musician type to grasp what is going on here and with the revolution within the Metal world that is happening before our eyes and ears a band like Prescient can grab your attention.

Although relatively short with only 6 songs, each track seems to push their musical boundaries with the use of knuckle draggingly low guitar tunings and more of those unconventional time sig's. At times blending the speed of Thrash, virtuoso-like musicianship and Modern Metal tones and musing's, Prescient deliver an all around great package. This CD is a self release and the artwork and CD layout is STELLAR! The packaging rivals most signed artists' material, if not beating a lot of them. It is obvious the amount of time and effort (not to mention money) that went into this EP and the CD inside is not slouch either. The music production is spot on as well and makes stand out tracks like the flat out awesome Djent chugging of "Foresight" or the tight groove of "The Construct" so good.

With each track offering something equally good, I'd be hard pressed to find a reason for me NOT to tell you to give The Polynominal Framework a spin. The musicianship of Prescient is excellent and with this being a fairly new band (they formed in 2009), I'd say that they have a bright future ahead of them if they can build from this killer beginnings. If you dig bands like Karnivool, TesseracT or Threat Signal, even without vocals, you will like Prescient. Looking very forward to what the future brings for these guys.
