Irata: Vultures

I think I've gotten to the stage where I dread opening my e-mails as whenever I do there's a strong chance that it'll be full of things for me to review. Don't get me wrong, I know that I'm privileged to hear lots of great music well before the rest of the world but…there's just so much product out there and so much of it is remarkably similar and almost indistinct from other stuff one has to listen to. Therein lies the problem with Irata. There isn't much here that I haven't heard before done better. Yes, as their bio suggests there is plenty of tricky riffing and "math-y post-rock," but there's nothing within the five tracks that stands out. Vultures is well-played and well-produced but for me it is going to get lost in the shuffle.
