Myrah: My Deliverance

Despite the fact that goth metal bands get a good flogging in the press more often than not, I have to admit that I am a bit of a sucker for goth metal. While other reviewers will rip on these bands for the way they dress and the way that more are more "pop" than metal, I've got to admit I love it. I have no idea why as I really should hate this style, but for some reason I just don't. Call it my weakness if you will.

Myrah, if you haven't guessed are a goth metal band from Sweden with more of an emphasis on the goth angle than the metal. The band has all of the genre's staples: Guys in eyeliner, everyone dressed in black and the obligatory (in this case two!) hot female. However, unlike pretty much any goth metal band that I can think of, the singer in this case is one of the guys and not the girl.

Songwise the band plays some hooky, yet suitably gloomy songs. Singer Patrik Essman while not the best frontman that the genre has to offer, can definitely sing and his voice is quite suitable for the band's songs. The music is a bit lite on the heaviness as I mentioned, but hooky as hell at the same time. Also, unlike many bands of this genre who have a handful of really good songs on an album while the rest are filler, Myrah are actually quite consistent and pretty much all of the songs are quite good.

Those of you who don't like this kind of stuff aren't going to find much if anything to like here. But, those of you who do like goth metal would be wise to check the band out.
