Whispers of the Black Wulf: Harvest Ov Wolves

Whispers of the Black Wulf is another band that has recently released their album on cassette only metal label Tridroid Records. Now, as Tridroid promotes itself as being a metal label, I have been kind of surprised by what I have heard so far. You see, the first album I heard from the label was a fantastic dark ambient release by the band Sleep Deprived. Figuring that the album was a bit of a fluke genre wise, I put on Whispers of the Black Wulf expecting to hear black metal and instead I heard dark ambient again.

Now the thing with ambient music is that it is kind of hard for people to get into sometimes. After all, the "music" is primarily made up of odd sounds and the point is to convey a mood rather than a song structure. Some people really like this style, while others really don't get it and think of this kind of stuff as mere noise. As I mentioned in my previous review on Sleep Deprived, I personally really like the stuff when done well.

Whispers of the Black Wulf are definitely a band that do the dark ambient sound well. Per the band's bio on Facebook the music is "The conjuring of nocturnal energies of a current birthed between us WOTBW is a spiritual journey into the heart of wulvs bonded by magick, passion and love". This is a great description of the band's overall sound. While listening to the album I felt a definite atmosphere of darkness and nature, winds blowing and wolves hunting. The overall sound is perfect for a cold November's night.

Harvest Ov Wolves can be purchased from Tridroid soon. The label only makes editions of 100 copies so if you are planning on picking one up you should order as soon as you can.
