San Francisco Bay Area thrashers debut album, The Serpentine Ritual has quite literally enhanced my listening pleasure every time I've given the damn thing a spin. I must admit I was fully expecting to slate this album, as on first impressions something didn't quite click. If your tendencies lie in the Overkill/Forbidden camp of the 1980's then this is going to get you spanking that plank once again and throwing posters of studded long haired metal men on your bedroom wall to the delight of the other half. Times have moved on but for some a visit to the past is a temptation too great to pass on, Kill Ritual have achieved that and added their own brand of cutting edge up to day elements. Vocalist Josh Gibson spits out his message with the precision of a Gatling gun, reminiscent of Bobby Blitz, its harsh raspy sound suits the thrashing guitars perfectly. 'Old School Thrasher' is simply that, the double relentless bass pounds along with fist pumping pleasure. An album I've enjoyed dipping into, the 80's sentiments with the view of looking into the future, Kill Ritual have surpassed my expectations.
