Alastor are labeled as the 'legendary thrash band from Poland', though I have to admit this is my first experience with them. Out of Anger is their brand new studio album, and first with singer Mish Jarski, who joined in 2010 replacing Robert Stankiewicz. Apparently these guys have been around since the late '80s wreaking havoc throughout Poland, and here we are in 2012 and they are still going strong.
Much of Out of Anger is fairly solid thrash with a touch of hardcore thrown in for good measure. Nothing groundbreaking mind you, but quite heavy with some crunchy riffing and pounding drumming on tunes like "Real Face", "Beaten", and the blistering "Crawling". In addition to the thrash & hardcore elements, there's a slight influence of Slipknot on a couple of tunes as well, made even more prominent by Jarski's ability to sometimes sound like Corey Taylor. While some of the riffs are familiar and pedestrian on a few tracks, thankfully they really turn it up on "Righteous Kill" and the title track and deliver some truly punishing grooves & riffs that prove to be a little more memorable.
Out of Anger is a decent modern thrash album, but unfortunately not much more. Alastor haven't really brought anything new to the table here, and most of us have heard this sort of thing before and better. Still, if you love thrash and want something safe and familiar, I can easily recommend this one.
