With All The Rage: Yesterday...Now...Tomorrow...Ever

I can't say that Sicily is famed for its groove metal bands, but if the island off the south west coast of Italy has many more outfits like With All The Rage hidden in its midst, then that might just be about to change. Groove metal can mean many things, but in the case if WATR and their Yesterday...Now...Tomorrow...Ever album, it is a combination of a touch of metal-core and a larger slice of good old thrash metal values. In fact musically this is quite an intentionally retro charge of riff and rumble, with double kick drums blasting bolts right through your head, as the guitars roar with a mixture of evil intent and joyous abandon. Vocally however things are brought more up to date, with an almost spoken growl interspersing a hard hitting scream to leave a really strong mix of melody and aggression.

The retro feel is heightened by the brevity of the album, with the seven songs on show barely scrapping past the thirty minute mark, but with such a strong reliance on what could be seen as well worn themes, the fact that nothing outstays its welcome makes for an altogether more convincing end product. The twin guitar attack is the band's strength and along with solid drumming and vocals that possess the sort of kick that prevents the thrashing swipes from ever becoming tired retreads, the likes of "Cemetery Park Revisited", "A Good Day To Die" and the (whatever way you take it...) unfortunately titled "Plug In Your Ass" put a big grin on your face.

This is a solid effort from a band who know how to play to their strengths. Yes, they may sound like countless other acts out there, but that doesn't stop Y...N...T...E from being the sort of short sharp shock you'd happily take repeat doses of.
