Rosenkopf: Rosenkopf

Based out of Brooklyn USA is the trio calling themselves, Rosenkopf. They develop tension across their 6 song self titled CD in a way that I can only describe as Black Psychedelic, instrumental noise. Part ambient fodder fused with a Punk attitude and part electronica experimentation, Rosenkopf attempts to blanket you in a sonic cocoon of sounds.

Using a heavy dose of Industrial type ground work to pave the way, songs like the opening "Burning Spirits" and "Troth" are long on that repeating rhythm that doesn't go anywhere, but allows them to make even more sounds and noises over the top of the droning. Dark, brooding and persistent are the words that come to mind. With equal parts of experimentation, groove and synth/wave, the true beat of this band is their relentlessness. With songs clocking in at over 5, 6 and 7 minutes long of not much more than an ambient, pulsating back beat with some overtones of Alt guitar noodling over top or splashes of synth, this gets tiring quickly.

Their Post-Punk ideals are abundant and fairly boring, to be honest, and besides a vehicle for self expression, the 6 songs on the release don't hold your attention and quickly become background noise. The constant barrage of their unyielding rhythm just doesn't go anywhere and make them into a noise jam band at your local hipster Coffee/art weekend performance shop type of band then a band whose CD you would want to listen to again and again. The 6 instrumental tracks on Rosenkopf's self titled CD are just quite boring and indifferent and left no impression on me other than to ask if it's over yet.
