From the folks at Transubstand Records/Record Heaven comes the Swedish band Dirty Passion and their latest CD In Wonderland, which is a trip back to mid-'80s hard rock & heavy metal. To say that these guys worship at the altar of early Motley Crue, Ratt, Dokken, Faster Pussycat, Poison, Loudness, and Y& T is an understatement, but despite the lack of anything new going on here, heavy music fans of that era will be more than pleased with what's on display.
Most of the tunes on In Wonderland are rockin', raunchy, and raw, with plenty of sleazy vocals, anthemic choruses, and scorching guitar riffs. Some of the noteworthy tunes are "Lovers Lane", the title track, and "Sinner", each one full of fist pumping riffs and memorable hooks, while those into power ballads can savor "Make It Last" and "Stay". On the surface, In Wonderland is more than commendable, but after multiple spins there's just not a lot of meat to go along with those potatoes for these ears. So much of what Dirty Passion have come up with here has been done before, but hey, for all you '80s rockers out there who can't get enough of this kind of thing, get your Bic lighters out and get ready to take a trip back in time.
