The Alaska were formed in 2009 by Sunny Banipal (vocals & guitar), Kevin Giesbrecht (guitar) and Mike Potusek (bass) who were all joined in 2012 by drummer Adrian Peters and they play modern prog/post-rock out of Vancouver. The first thing one notices is that Poison sounds great and the credit goes to the band and co-producer Matt Roach as the sound is wide and like a sonic Terence Malik film. Whether or not The Alaska covers more ground in these two songs than most bands do in whole albums (which is what the bio claims) is a moot point but "Sleep" certainly goes from a worryingly Coldplay style opening to rocking out big style whilst "Trick of the Eyes" is altogether more introspective and indie in its outlook. I'm sure a full album by The Alaska would be well worth a listen.
