I was most pleased to have the opportunity to review the Polish group Grimlord's previous album Dolce Vita Sath-anas; it was an impressive release by a talented band that up till then I hadn't heard before. So I when I recently received the link to their new release V Column I was eager to hear that which was on it.
Saying Grimlord is a metal band of various stylings is maybe the easiest way to classify their music which is so varied that you never really know where this band will take you next, from tranquil times to explosive metal. And while the vocals do the job so to speak it's the musicianship of Grimlord that really is the highlight of their recordings for myself.
Title track "V-Column" is also the brisk album opener and "Mass Delusions & Hysterias" sounds fantastic once those super cool heavy riffs come into play and the double kicks take off. Spanish guitar meets furious metal on "Faithful Avenger...Till The Remainder" while the instrumental "March Again" is very inviting, being one of those songs that I look the most forward to every time I put V Column on for a spin.
Will this be the album that sees the works of Grimlord become more widely appreciated? Hopefully it does as anyone maybe looking for something less predictable are in for a different musical experience.
