Some of you may remember a few months ago we reviewed the debut of Washington, DC traditional metal act A Sound of Thunder, Out of the Darkness. Now the band is unleashing this solid little EP titled Queen of Hell, which once again shows the commanding vocal pipes of lead singer Nina Osegueda and the rip snorting guitar skills of Josh Schwartz. There are four tracks here, with two versions of "Queen of Hell", one having guest vocals from Veronica Freeman of Benedictum, as well as a fun take on the Black Sabbath song "Trashed" from the underrated Born Again album with Ian Gillan. Honestly, hearing Osegueda tackling Gillan's screaming vocals on that classic song is just about worth the price of admission here, but both "Hello Nurse" and "Queen of Hell" are also solid songs and worth hearing. All in all Queen of Hell is an exciting 20 minutes of heavy metal that proves to be a taste of what's to come from A Sound of Thunder here in 2013 as they finish up their next full-length.
