Massdirge: Untitled
"Massdirge's first official release, 'Untitled" is a true metal head's thunder machine. This is heavy dirge – filled grinding guitars that sound like a steel mill's blast furnace.
The project was written, engineered, performed, arranged, and mastered by David Doktor from 2004-2007.
Doktor's vocals, which there are not many, are spur-of-the-moment paroxysms in either English, Russian, or odd undecipherable frustrated mumblings.
Doktor uses seven virtual analog synths, a Manley Vox Box, GML eq, Waves plug-in bundles galore, and Pro Tools HD with an AWS-900 desk… What it ends up sounding like, at times is a metal press, drill or stamping machine, on a massive factory floor.
Having grown up in the industrial Mid-West, I've been in steel and car manufacturing plants before and have heard similar noises. But Doktor puts it all together well with that slow dirge – like grind.
This is powerful, full on noise created with some rhythm, guaranteed to be the first time many listeners will have heard this type of power and grind. Yes, and now for something completely different…this is your ticket.
