Scandinavia has been the most successful continent as of late when it comes to the export of distorted guitar fuelled brilliance of all genres. Loch Vostok treads a path that is paved with crazy paving, a multitude of styles combined to make something unique. This can be the downfall of a lot of bands as people always like to categorize their music into Metal/Prog/Symphonic etc. To their credit though Loch Vostok are talented individuals who cover all the above genres, including the obligatory Death Metal and Meshuggah styled breakdowns. 'Citizen Caine' is steeped in moody overtures of prog combining Death Metal growls and progressive time changes. While 'Twilight Of The Dogs' has a Fear Factory feel bellowing below its industrial inner workings, further along proceedings balance between fuck heavy and intricate.
Loch Vostok are certainly trying to cover as many bases as possible and while succeeding in some sadly the multitude of mixes don't quite work together on all tracks. A sprinkling of highlights redeems what could be an absolute abortion; thankfully these plucky Scandinavians seem to pull it out of the bag just in time which makes interesting listening.
