Epic symphonic metal sure has some standout acts who know how to create such majestic and riveting music, with bands like Rhapsody Of Fire and Fairyland leading the way. When I heard "Skyride" an exhilarating instrumental track and one of the standout numbers on the new album by the Finish symphonic metal group Epicrenel, I knew this band were also one that had something special to offer.
The Crystal Throne is the new album where that particular track and many other quality Epicrenel songs can be found. As to be expected with Epicrenel's chosen style of music keyboards feature heavily and like the guitars of Epicrenel they fluctuate in pace and power soaring up to hit those lighting speeds.
"Where Kingdoms Fall" has exciting input from their guitarists and a chorus to match while "Walls Of The Cave" and "Floating Souls" also impress. Epicrenel show you don't only need to write songs that persistently blaze along at frantic speeds with "In The Dungeon", as they really mix it up. This song also features a lively and exciting extended solo section when the keyboards and guitars are let loose. Epicrenel won me over with "Conquering the Throne" as they take a different turn and thanks greatly once again to the guitar work and also that wonderful musical variation in this atmospheric epic track. Epicrenel then conclude as they began serving up another strong orchestral instrumental a grand arrangement they called "The Coronation".
The charm of Epicrenel's material on The Crystal Throne is hard to resist and they add enough twists to help separate themselves from other similar bands. This Finish group are certainly another to add to any epic symphonic metal fans want list.
