Am I Blood have at least one good going on: their CD plays in my slowly dying CD-ROM drive.
More importantly, the other thing going on is the music. Am I Blood have a precise guitar chop and a heavy sound rich in the low of lows. The riffs are generally short and stick to the point as in "Examination". You could pick the Pantera-isms in almost every song, yet Am I Blood is not that one dimensional. They add some great harmonized sections like the one in "Segregated Holocaust".
"Suicidal Solution" has a monotonous riff that is the opposite of catchy. The song is not totally lost, though, as it comes through with a chorus that draws you into it with all the layers of sounds. This is not the same re-hashed stuff you have heard 1000 times before. There are enough new sounds and effects to keep you interested. Immediately I like "Scar in the Head". It comes at you like a pack of wolves. Mid-paced, along with 75% of the disc, it is a solid tune with some good riffage.
But there is something missing. As I listen to the next two songs, I discover what it is. This disc has songs that have good flow, timing, variation and razor sharp licks. What lacks is that most songs don't complete themselves. There is no peak, no valley, just a steady stream of good songs....nothing great.
