Reborn is the title of this very appealing progressive metal release that you could say is of a dark and heavier nature. Comparisons to the progressive powerhouse Symphony X will most probably be drawn given some similarities mainly with the vocals they remind one of the harder style of Russell Allen. Though this group is certainly not the first to be influenced by that most popular metal band.
This recording is the second of the dynamic and technical four piece group Thabu who are another fine South American metal band, this one is from the city of Buenos Aires. 2004 was the year when Thabu was founded then releasing their first album La Opresion de lo Inevitable in 2008, and after experiencing Reborn my first taste of Thabu's material I soon found that this band sure have got their act together.
It's tough not to compare to other heavy progressive bands but Thabu are more than a mere clone they do have their own identity. Guitarist Santiago Diaz Garces unleashes many potent riffs on this album and he cuts loose with some sizzling shredding when Thabu embark with "A Game Of Lies" a robust progressive metal tune. Title track "Reborn" has more of those mighty riffs and effective drum patterns. "Fictionating the present" turns up the complexity once more which is something else that Thabu are most competent at. Instrumental "Remains of reality" is another engrossing heavy and technical Thabu arrangement, but wait there's more as "Violentango" is another track minus the vocals and this one is really quite different to what precedes it as Thabu gets cultural.
Fans of progressive metal with a harder edge and complex musicianship will get a big kick out of the songs by Thabu on Reborn.
