No calm opening music to gently ease you into this new release when Swedish group Shadows Past open with full force and they promptly dive into "Wherever I Go" a song featuring a dynamic performance. There is much more of that to be heard as this group presents their mixture of powerful and engrossing melodic metal to those fortunate enough to experience it on their new recording.
I first heard vocalist Ola Halen on the enjoyable album Agony - Gift of Life from the power metal group Insania. Ola along with guitarist Jonatan Berg started Shadows Past in 2005, and Shadows Past is now primed to release their first recording titled Perfect Chapter.
As I wrote above the album commences with a spirited metal song which continues into the title track "Perfect Chapter". After two lively tracks "Cry No More" starts out as if Shadows Past are venturing in a different direction with a much slower and quite heavy effective feel but the tempo change is short lived. While I do like this song it would have also sounded very cool if Shadows Past had continued on with this slow and mighty manner. "An Old Enemy" is one of the standouts on Perfect Chapter it's a very catchy metal groover as they cut back that pace, another winner is "The One" featuring more vibrant Shadows Past metal and a most effective guitar and keyboard solo.
Shadows Past is one new metal group that promptly ignited my curiosity as Perfect Chapter is an impressive debut.
