Joel Grind's Yellowgoat: The Yellowgoat Sessions

Joel Grind is a multi-talented musician who plays the guitar and sings. He's founded Toxic Holocaust, a band that's grown from a solo project into a band in its own right. They're pretty good. According to Grind himself, this project and The Yellowgoat Sessions generally shouldn't be seen as a Toxic Holocaust release. It's just another side project or solo effort from Joel Grind.

Whatever it is, we'll take it. I confess that I get tired of all the album covers with goats on them. I mean, how many times does this need to be done already? Still, the music on this thing is a lot of fun. Imagine Motorhead performing satanically-thematic music and you're already more than half-way to understanding this music. It's rock and roll that sounds like metal, metal that sounds like rock and roll. It's also really distorted, filled with feedback, and gritty. Most of the songs here are terrific, but be sure to check out "Hell's Master of Hell," "Grave Encounters," and "Hail to Cruelty." Good stuff. I could have done without the "Ascension" and "Descension" tracks, mostly just mysterious and moody sound that's meant to set up some kind of ritual or dramatic mood. Physical copies of this release are selling out and may be hard to come by in the near future. Fortunately, Grind has a bandcamp page offering a download for a small price. See the link below.
