We've been saying it for years now, but there seems to be no stopping this 'thrash renaissance' that's been going on for about a decade. So many of the classic era bands, such as Kreator, Megadeth, Exodus, Testament, and Overkill just to name a few, have been releasing some of their strongest material since the '80s. Toss Germany's Destruction into that mix as well, as the teutonic terrors have been on a roll of late and their latest platter on Nuclear Blast Spiritual Genocide is no exception.
With one rip-snortin' thrashy neck cracker after another, Spiritual Genocide doesn't deviate from the Desruction formula, but that's ok and certainly what most fans have come to expect from them. Tunes like the title track, the raging "Cyanide", or the fist pumping "Renegades" all deliver what Destruction do best, and that is memorable, crunchy guitar driven trash metal. "City of Doom" twists and turns in relentless fashion, complete with some savage snarls from band leader Schmier, and the complex riffery and jackhammer drum work of "No Signs Of Repentance" totally kicks ass. The mosh pit friendly "Legacy of the Past" even features a scorching three way vocal trade off between Schmier, Sodom's Tom Angelripper, and Tankard's Gerre for good measure.
Thrash is still alive and well in 2013, and Destruction have once again delivered another head smasher in Spiritual Genocide.
