Counting Crows: Echoes Of The Outlaw Roadshow

When it comes to live performance Counting Crows are renowned for changing familiar arrangements of their illustrious back catalogue to suit the on stage mood, thereby providing even their hard-core audience with an ever evolving show. With half a dozen studio albums and four live albums across a twenty year career it is more than apparent they are comfortably at home on stage and Echoes Of The Outlaw Roadshow, recorded during their 2012 tour of North America, is another fine example of their road hardened abilities.

Never a band to simply trot out the hits the set kicks off with a stark rendering of Dylan's 'Girl From The North Country' which in turn leads into a much changed rendition of signature song, 'Round Here'. Adam Duritz remains an exceptional frontman, able to swerve his mood to deliver lyrics that require being both brisk and upbeat ('Rain King') wry and ironic ('Friend of the Devil') and trademark world-weary melancholy ('Hospital'). The band plays with a feeling of joyous spontaneity, reworking deep album cuts and unlikely covers (Teenage Fanclub's 'Start Again'). Delivered with that unmistakable spark of originality and creativity this CD is a wonderful reminder of the Counting Crows doing what they do best.

Echoes Of The Outlaw Roadshow is released on April 8th and Counting Crows play six shows around the UK starting in Birmingham on April 19th – check out www.countingcrows.com for ticket and venue information.
