Vitriol: Into the Silence I Sink

Vitriol is an Italian progressive band made up of Gianluca Pappalardo, on lead vocals; Tommaso Semrov and Alessandro Sanfilippo, on guitars; Andrea Roda, on keyboards and backing vocals; Francesco Lombardo, on bass and backing vocals; and Michele Panepinto, on drums and backing vocals.

'Into the Silence I Sink' is their second album after the self – titled debut. "It's a concept album revolving around the theme of Silence, metaphorically approached as "deep absence of communication". "It's 10 songs, conducive to an analysis of the different causes of this absence of communication: the anonymity of the urban environment, the historical contraposition of ideologies, (Outward Silence, between person and person), differences between who we are and who we appear to be (Inner Silence, between the own appearance and essence)".

"The band name Vitriol in fact is the acronym of one of the most famous mottos of Renaissance alchemy: "Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultam Lapidem" (Enter the bowels of the Earth and, through your purification, you will find the hidden stone)".

Well…ok…here we go…

This is a rather dark piece of work. It is very proggy…but more on the metal/heavy side…with a dark edge. The lyrics reflect the deep dark contemplation that the album's concept hopes to convey and uncover. Great bass, drums, lead electric guitar and keys. The lead singer Pappalardo's vocals are very good as well.

This is just not my cup of tea.
