Revelation: Inner Harbor

Veteran prog/doom pioneers Revelation return with Inner Harbor, an album that finds the stalwarts in remarkably good shape almost three decades on since they first emerged on the scene with their appealing blend of Sabbath / Rush fused metal. The trio of drummer Steve Branagan, guitarist/vocalist John Brenner and bassist Bert Hall Jr have more than twenty releases behind them, both as Revelation and alter-ego Against Nature and, after a limited digital only release at the end of 2012, Inner Harbor gets the full worldwide CD distribution in April.

Revelation are not afraid to mix up the tempos and Inner Harbor immediately grabs your attention with the throbbing title track, Brenner offering up some satisfying licks and when his vocals kick in you are transported right back to the early 70's. 'Rebecca at the Well' kicks things up a notch with its Cactus like blues workout and they save the best until last with the expansive and sprawling 'An Allegory of Want' that twists, turns and shimmers to a fittingly fuzz soaked conclusion. As music evolves with the ever changing tide bands such as Revelation are more than content to simply let it pass them by and carry on doing what they love and this a fine example of precisely that.
