Givens, Edward M., and Neil Valett: Evaporated
Edward M Givens, (on synthesizers, keys, samples, loops, rhythm box, woodwinds, harmonica, and vocals), has teamed up with Neil Valett, on basses to create "Evaporated". Joining them are guest instrumentalists: Harry Hafferkamp, on electric guitar, track 4; Jon Davis Miller, on acoustic guitars, track 5; Brett Pitner: Oud, on electric guitar and synth guitar, track 6; Daniel Crommie, on flutes and processed flutes, track 5; and Michael D'Leora, on synthesizer, tracks 9 and 11.
This is a rhythmically soothing mix of music that will help take all of your cares away and relax you beyond recognition. It is a wonderful and eclectic mix of jazz with excellent melody.
The opening and title track is an excellent kick – off to where the music will lead you. "Zombie Vacation" is a wild mix of electronics bass. and Given's unique vocal style.
The flute work on "Bird Brain" is exceptional, as is Hafferkamp's soloing.
Jon Davis Miller's acoustic guitar was wonderful on "Dialog", as was the flute work again.
The sitar – like sounds on "Eclipse" make it my favorite track on the album. Like a trek through the Sahara it is full of adventure.
"Another Stranger" has so many Hitchcock turns it will amaze you.
"Verdure" opens like a Steve Hackett guitar solo, and then it morphs into a wild ride through deep and heavy bass mixed well with special effects.
"Echo People" will keep you on your toes with its cool synthesized spacey rhythm. The percussion matches well with the mind – blowing synthesizer work.
This is an excellent slice of what Monty Python's troupe would call "And now for something completely different". An excellent adventure indeed. ;^)
