Toxic Holocaust: From the Ashes of Nuclear Destruction

This won't be a long review. Toxic Holocaust is a terrific old-school band that has stayed true to their sound for a long time. They are aggressive, loud, and often a lot of fun. They're also busy, keeping themselves on the road, wearing themselves out performing for their rabid fans. Joel Grind is also a pretty busy guy. I recently reviewed The Yellowgoat Sessions by Joel Grind's Yellowgoat, a cool new release that I thoroughly enjoyed. Just a few weeks after that release, he now offers listeners a 22-track anthology of rarities by Toxic Holocaust. Sure, most of us are waiting for the follow-up to Conjure and Command, but we'll take what we can get, especially from a band that hasn't forgotten that simple riffs and punk-infused attitude can go a long way.

The music here is pretty much what it claims to be—a collection of all the stuff Toxic Holocaust contributed to compilations and splits. There are also a few demo versions of classic songs. The recording quality of the songs varies a bit from track to track, something that's probably inevitable, but the brightness of the latter tracks is most welcome. Still, the aggressive riffage comes through just fine track for track. Die-hard fans have probably heard a bunch of these songs already, but it's nice to have them accessible in one collection. I especially liked listening to "Ready to Fight" and "Altar-ed States" this time around. Check this one out.
